Trincomalee is a city in east Sri Lanka located on the Bay of Trincomalee. It is the administrative headquarters of the Trincomalee District and has a population of nearly 99,000 people. The city is known for its harbour, which is one of the largest and deepest natural harbours in the world. Its strategic importance has made it the focus of several military battles throughout its history. It is also home to the Trincomalee Harbour Seaplane Base (THW) which is a military airfield used by the Sri Lanka Air Force. The city is also home to several beaches, ancient temples, and the Koneswaram Temple, a Hindu temple situated atop Swami Rock that is believed to have been constructed in the 6th century.

By Car: The best way to get to Trincomalee Harbour Seaplane Base (THW) by car is to take the A9 motorway from Colombo to Jaffna, then turn off at the Trincomalee exit and follow the road to the airport. The total cost of the journey will depend on the type of car and the distance travelled, but it should cost between Rs. 1,500 – 2,500. By Bus: The cheapest way to get to THW is by bus. There are several bus services that run from Colombo to Trincomalee and will take around 5-6 hours. The cost of a bus ticket is around Rs. 350-500. By Train: There is no direct train service from Colombo to THW, but there are regular trains from Colombo to Trincomalee that take around 6 hours. The cost of a train ticket is around Rs. 500-750. By Taxi: The fastest way to get to THW is by taxi, although it will be the most expensive option. A taxi from Colombo to THW should cost around Rs. 3,000-4,000.
